How the MBZUAI Executive Program is helping shape the future of the UAE 6 national and institutional challenges were worked by groups of thought leaders to propose solutions by using AI. A very comprehensive business model was developed by each group by highlighting the problem statement, proposed solutions, and the benefit of the solutions to the UAE as a nation. The theme of this cohort was "Sustainability", and the projects tackled topics in digita services, health services, sport and well-being, natural resources, climate, and food security. A Lecturer from Al-Nahrain Engineering Publishes a Scientific Paper in an International Journal Dr. Ahmed Wahid Mustafa from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Al-Nahrain University published a scientific paper titled “Structural Design of the Equivalent Fence under Natural Thermal Load and Radiative Heat” in the International Journal of Thermal Sciences, published by Elsevier, which is classified in the first quartile (Q1). The paper discusses a new design method using the structural design methodology, “Bijan’s Method,” which constrained the height to the length while allowing freedom for the width. The researcher presented an innovative design for an equivalent-shaped enclosure under thermal and radiative loads, demonstrating that the optimal design is achieved when the height of the enclosure is equal to its width. The paper also discusses practical applications of this design, particularly in Compound Parabolic Concentrators (CPC) used in solar collector systems. The results were validated using scale analysis, reinforcing the importance of this study in advancing solar energy technologies.

The Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing Research Group is pleased to invite you to a scientific session entitled "Recent Advances in Manufacturing Engineering: Additive Manufacturing, Post Processing, and Applications." The session will feature the following distinguished speakers: Professor Moataz Attallah, a Professor of Advanced Materials Processing at the University of Birmingham, UK. He leads the Advanced Materials and Processing Laboratory (AMPLab), focusing on the metallurgical understanding of material-process interactions in additive manufacturing of metallic materials. His Talk is titled “Accelerating Materials and Process Development in Additive Manufacturing”. This will be followed by a presentation by Professor Fayez M. El-Hossary, A Professor in the Physics Department at Sohag University, Egypt, specializing in plasma applications. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Sohag Bulletin of Pure and Applied Science, and his presentation will be about Cold Plasma Processing and its Applications. Finally, Eng. Hassan Mahmoud, a PhD researcher from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, will give an interesting talk about Flexible and Printable Wireless Sensor Technologies for Structural, Wearable, and Environmental Monitoring Applications. ✨ Reflecting on 2024 ✨ The year 2024 has been exceptionally productive for me, culminating in the publication of 19 peer-reviewed articles across academic journals, book chapters, and conferences.  The significance of this work has fostered numerous industrial collaborations, with pilot projects and prototypes currently underway, and exciting plans for full commercial partnerships in 2025. This success has been driven by my proactive engagement with emerging trends and advancements in my field, leading to a rise in innovative research and collaborative dialogue. This year's contributions demonstrate my commitment to advancing knowledge and sharing discoveries across various disciplines. The conferences and workshops I attended provided invaluable networking opportunities and served as vital platforms to showcase pioneering research. Journals and book chapters have played an essential role in disseminating significant findings. Key research topics covered in 2024 included sustainability, renewable energy, machine learning, IoT, high-voltage earthing systems, engineering education, smart cities, and advanced predictive analytics. In summary, 2024 has been characterized by a vibrant exchange of ideas, industrial engagement, pilot projects, and scholarly contributions. I am pleased to share a recently accepted paper to feature in Smart and Sustainable Built Environment (Q1) - Emerald Publishing. The paper presents an evaluation of the factors influencing the utilization of the Internet of Things (IoT) for sustainable facilities management (SFM) practices in Saudi Arabia. The study uses a mixed approach, combining a literature review, pilot-testing and questionnaire survey, to evaluate the factors. Twenty-seven factors were identified and grouped into four groups: technical, business and organizational, operational, and security and privacy. The questionnaire was distributed to two stakeholder categories: facilities managers and IoT specialists, to determine the effect index of each factor. The practitioners’ consensus on the ranking of the factors was then determined. Thanks to my co-authors Engr.
